On Thursday, July 3rd, NRC published an article written by Tanya Mehra, Senior Research Fellow and Programme Lead at ICCT.
Mehra discussed how the Netherlands should spend the newly allocated funds as part of their commitment to dedicate 5% of the GDP to the defence budget. She illustrated how terrorism is becoming increasingly complex in nature and increasingly intertwined with geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts. Mehra highlighted how terrorism fuels conflicts and vice versa, citing the conflicts between Hamas and Israel or the current situation in Syria. Furthermore, Mehra pointed out that the escalation of violence between India and Pakistan in April 2025 was also the result of a terrorist attack in Kashmir.
